Rafael Nadal has announced that he is not going to participate in the Cincinnati Open which is going to start from 11th of August. This is not good news for the fans of Nadal. The Spanish superstar had kept himself out of the Rogers Cup as well. As per Nadal, he hasn’t got rid of his knee injury yet and it is not sensible to feature in a hard court tournament without a 100% fit knee. So, he has decided to take some more time.
Nadal said that he had some fantastic experiences playing at Cincinnati. The fans are pretty supportive there and he enjoyed a lot playing in the previous editions of this tournament. It would have been wonderful to play in Cincinnati again, but, he can’t do much about his injury.
Nadal has never won the Cincinnati Open in his career, but, he had reached the semi final of this tournament in 2008, and the tennis betting leading up the tournament had picked him out as one of the favourites. In the semifinal twi years ago, he was defeated by Novak Djokovic. Last year, Nadal was defeated by Mardy Fish of USA in the quarter final.
Nadal has been struggling with his knee injury for quite sometime now. He hasn’t played any match after his early exit from the Wimbledon Championship this year. On being asked about the seriousness of his injury, Nadal said that he is getting a bit worried about his injury now. He hadn’t thought that he would have to remain out of the game for such a long time. It is frustrating him now and he wants to make a comeback as soon as possible.
On being asked whether he would play in the US Open or not, Nadal said that he can’t say anything at the moment, but, he would make a comeback only after getting 100% fit. With Nadal out, fans might be tempted to have a bet on Andy Murray – the young Brit has made the final twice, and has a great chance to winning.
